This vintage teak gate was originally crafted as an exterior courtyard or compound gate in India, where gates like this marked the threshold between public street life and the private interior world of the home. Built from solid teak with hand-turned spindle details and vertical iron bars, the piece balances utility, ventilation, and architectural presence in a way that feels both rustic and surprisingly modern.

Its softly arched silhouette and restrained detailing give the gate a strong sculptural quality without feeling overly ornate. Layers of age, sun-fading, worn paint remnants, oxidation, and surface irregularities preserve the authenticity of the piece and speak to decades of use. The original iron hardware and latch remain intact, adding to its character and functional appeal.

At 82 inches wide, the gate works beautifully in a variety of architectural applications — as a garden or courtyard entry, an interior room divider, a sliding architectural feature, a wine room entrance, or even as a dramatic decorative wall installation. The combination of open ironwork and turned teak elements allows light and air to pass through while maintaining a sense of enclosure and separation.

The aged teak has developed a soft, dry patina that only time can create, with tonal variation and imperfections that make each surface visually rich and impossible to replicate in newly manufactured work.
