Carved Tadelakt Planter — Morocco
Handcrafted in Morocco using traditional tadelakt techniques, this sculptural planter brings together centuries-old plaster craftsmanship with bold, contemporary carving.
Tadelakt is a lime-based plaster that has been used in North Africa for generations — most commonly in hammams and courtyard architecture. When applied and polished by hand with a stone, it develops a soft sheen and subtle movement that feels both organic and refined.
This piece begins as a solid plaster form. Artisans then hand-carve the surface, revealing a striking layered pattern of palm-like motifs. The contrast between the deep charcoal ground and the exposed natural tone creates movement and depth from every angle. No two carvings are identical — the rhythm of the lines reflects the hand of the maker.
The form is simple and grounded, allowing the texture to carry the piece. It works beautifully as a planter for a sculptural plant, or as a standalone decorative object.
